Admissions & Appeals

For a Year 7 place at The Mirfield Free Grammar, starting in September 2026, parents/carers must apply between 1 September 2025 and 31 October 2025.
The application process starts when students move into Year 6; families will receive information about applying for a secondary school place and open evenings will take place in September/October. The Mirfield Free Grammar Open Evening is on Thursday 2 October 2025.  Please check the website for updates.
Applications must be submitted online via the Kirklees Parent Portal by 31st October (late applications can reduce chances of obtaining a place). Offers are made on 1st March – parents/carers can log on to the Kirklees Parent Portal from 8:30am to view their offer of a school place and an email offer will be sent during the day to the email address the parent/carer used when submitting their application.

If you wish to appeal against the decision not to offer your child a place at The MFG, please contact the Admissions Office on 01924 483688 or email office@themfg.co.uk.  The deadline for lodging an appeal is 31 March.  Appeals will be held at the beginning of May.

YEAR 7 OPEN EVENING FOR SEPTEMBER 2026 ADMISSION

Thursday, 2 October 2025 | 5pm-8pm

Explore The MFG, meet the Principal, and most importantly meet our amazing students and inspirational teachers who make learning come to life. Take time to explore our facilities, independently or with a student guide, any time between 5pm until 8pm.
Throughout the evening there will be opportunities to try out subject activities, ask curriculum and transition questions, and find out about our catchment areas and appeals process.

MIRFIELD COLLEGE OPEN EVENING FOR SEPTEMBER 2026 ENTRY

Thursday, 16 October 2025 | 4.30pm-7pm

No bookings required. Please park in the main school car park or on Slipper Lane, a member of staff will be on hand to guide you through school and into the College building via the Slipper Lane College entrance.
Find out more about the pathways we offer by exploring the College and speaking to our subject specialists. Meet our fantastic student ambassadors and hear about their personal experience of the College so far.
Talks delivered by the College Team will take place at 5:30pm & 6pm. Our Careers Adviser, UCAS Coordinator and SENDCo will be available to answer any questions.
